Day 1
Day 2
- Arrive in Beijing late afternoon
- Transfer to hotel
- Casual dinner in hotel hosted by Don and Gail-or time to sleep
Day 3
- Visit Great Wall of China, Summer Palace and Olympic Park with its exceptional
architecture
- Lunch included
- Late afternoon free to rest or walk on Wangfujing Street
- Dinner included at Peking duck restaurant
- Stroll after dinner through outdoor food market with typical and unusual
Chinese delicacies
Day 4
- Full day of sightseeing in Beijing, including Temple of Heaven, Forbidden City,
Tiananmen Square, Great Hall of the People, Silk Road, Tea City
- Lunch included
- Dinner on your own
Day 5
- Depart for Xi'an, starting point of the Great Silk Road, on high speed train
- Arrive in Xi'an early afternoon
- Lunch included
- Visit Xi'an's ancient walls for bike ride around walls
- Dinner included at a traditional dumpling restaurant
Day 6
- Visit terracotta soldiers
- Lunch included
- Afternoon visit to Wild Goose Pagoda
- Free time in afternoon

- Stroll through Muslim Quarter after dinner
Day 7
- Morning flight to Dunhuang, on the edge of the Gobi Desert, Western China
- Lunch included on flight or upon arrival
- Depending on arrival times, visit fabulous Mogao Caves, filled with paintings by
ancient Silk Road

Day 8
- Day to visit more of the Mogao Caves (different ones are opened each day) and
the dunes and geological sites around Dunhuang
- Lunch included
- Possible camel ride to dunes for overnight camping in the desert, depending on
weather

Day 9
- Early morning return to Dunhuang from desert if we camp in the desert
- Fly to Chengdu in morning

- Afternoon visit to Giant Panda Breeding Reserve, Wuhou Temple

Day 10
- Morning visit to 2200 year old Dujiangyan flood control project
- Lunch included
- Afternoon for possible business visit

- Fly to Lijiang, at the edge of the Tibetan Plateau
- Lunch included
- Afternoon visit to the ancient city of Lijiang, with time to climb the hill above the
city for a panoramic view
- Dinner included

Day of sightseeing in the region around Lijiang, including the 18,300 foot high
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, where we will hike beneath the glaciers with
magnificent views of the peak (weather permitting), and a visit to a nearby
village

Day 13
- Depart early for all-day drive across the Tibetan Plateau to Shangri La, high on
the Plateau, passing through villages, farmlands and tundra
- Picnic lunch included
- Arrive in Shangri La late afternoon
- Dinner included
Day 14
- Optional full day hike across the high (12,000 feet) rolling hills of the Tibetan
Plateau, stopping for lunch in a typical Tibetan home
- Other options include the spa, a visit to a farm, just relaxing in your villa

Fly to Shanghai in morning

- Afternoon visit to Shanghai Museum and Urban Planning Museum

- Take the train to Suzhou to visit the IM Pei Museum

- Transfer to Shanghai Airport, Pudong, by maglev train which reaches 300 mph
and reaches the airport in 7 minutes (compared to a 1 hour cab ride)
