Day 1

  • Depart USA for Europe

Day 2

  • Arrive in Palermo, Sicily, Italy
  • Transfer to hotel
  • Afternoon free for resting or strolling through Palermo's ancient city
  • Opening dinner included
  • Overnight in Palermo

Day 3

  • Morning tour of Palermo, including the beautiful Byzantine Mantorana
  • Church, Palatine Chapel in the Norman Palace (now the Parliament) and
  • Palermo's charming piazzas
  • Lunch included
  • Afternoon visit to Monreale in the mountains near Palermo
  • Dinner on your own
  • Overnight in Palermo

Day 4

  • Depart in the morning for the magnificent Greek ruins at Segesta
  • Lunch included in Erice, a mountain-top stone village nearby
  • Drive to the Verdura Resort
  • Late afternoon free to rest or enjoy the beach
  • Dinner included at the resort
  • Overnight at the Verdura Resort

Day 5

  • Morning visit to the Greek and Roman city of Selinunte
  • Lunch on your own at the resort
  • Early afternoon free to rest or enjoy the beach
  • Late afternoon wine tasting at Planeta Ulmo Winery in the nearby mountains
  • Dinner on your own at the resort
  • Overnight at the resort

Day 6

  • Depart for Agrigento
  • Tour of the fabulous Valley of the Temples
  • Lunch included
  • Afternoon visit to Villa Romana del Casale to see its magnificent mosaics
  • Check in to Eremo della Giubiliana, a lovely old hermitage hotel in the countryside near Ragusa
  • Dinner included at the hotel
  • Overnight at Eremo della Giubiliana

Day 7

  • Morning tour of Modica, a Baroque stone town, with time to visit one of its chocolate factories and enjoy its very unique (and delicious) chocolates
  • Lunch included in the nearby village of Scicli
  • Afternoon winetasting at Azienda Agricola Cos winery
  • Dinner included at a fish restaurant in Marina di Ragusa, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea
  • Overnight at Eremo della Giubiliana

Day 8

  • Depart for Vendicari Nature Reserve for a walk through the marshes and out to the Sea, enjoying the wildlife and birds that populate the Reserve
  • Lunch included in the nearby fisherman's village of Marzamemi, with time to stroll through this charming town and taste some of the local products
  • Drive to Siracusa
  • Check into hotel on Ortigia, the island center of Siracusa's ancient city
  • Dinner included at a restaurant on the beautiful main piazza, Piazza Duomo
  • Overnight in Siracusa

Day 9

  • Morning tour of Siracusa Archaeological Park to see the ancient Greek quarry, Greek theater and Roman amphitheater
  • Continue with walking tour of Ortigia
  • Lunch on your own
  • Afternoon free for shopping or strolling through the old city
  • Dinner on your own
  • Overnight in Siracusa

Day 10

  • Drive to Taormina, a wonderful Greek and Roman town that has been a trade and traveler haven for millennia
  • Check into hotel in Taormina, high up on the mountain
  • Lunch included
  • Afternoon tour of Taormina
  • Dinner included
  • Overnight in Taormina

Day 11

  • Day to visit Mt. Etna
  • If this active volcano is not erupting, we will take a cable car and bus high up the sides of the volcano and take a short walk to one of the 200 craters
  • Picnic lunch included
  • Afternoon return to Taormina
  • Dinner on your own
  • Overnight in Taormina

Day 12

  • Day free in Taormina to walk down the steps to the beach or stroll and shop in the town or walk to the nearby village of Castelmoro, 1200 feet above Taormina on another mountaintop, stopping to enjoy the incredible views of Taormina, its Greek theater and the Ionian Sea off in the distance
  • Lunch on your own
  • Closing dinner included
  • Overnight in Taormina

Day 13

  • Depart for Catania for flights back to the USA or Europe
