Itinerary

Day 1

  • Depart from USA for Bangkok

Day 2

  • Arrive in Bangkok in the late evening
  • Overnight at the Novotel at Suvarnabhumi Airport, a short walk from the airport concourses
  • Dinner on your own if you arrive early
  • Option:You can fly directly to Yangon from Seoul, Taiwan, Doha, Dubai and other cities if you want to use Air Emirates, Qatar Air, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Asiana Air, China Air and Korean Air, all of which have flights from US cities to Yangon, connecting through their Asian/Middle Eastern hubs. You should plan to arrive in Yangon on Sunday, October 27. If you fly directly to Yangon on one of these routes, you will be met at the airport by our guide and transferred to the Governor’s Residence Hotel.

Day 3

  • 9:05am - Depart from Bangkok for Yangon, Myanmar on Bangkok Airways PG701
  • 9:55am - Arrive in Yangon, a city of tree-lined avenues, countless gold-domed pagodas, vibrant markets, and people wearing colorful longyis, the traditional Burmese dress
    (Note: Myanmar time is 12.5 hours ahead of Mountain Standard Time)
  • Transfer to Governor's Residence Hotel, a beautiful old Burmese teak mansion with luxurious rooms looking out on pools and gardens
  • Lunch included
  • Time for afternoon rest before visiting the reclining Buddha, Scott Market, the largest and most colorful market in Yangon, and in the late afternoon, the Shwedagon Pagoda, the most important temple in Myanmar, shimmering in its cover of gold leaf
  • Dinner included

Day 4

  • Day of business visits in Yangon, including the U.S. Embassy
  • Lunch included
  • Dinner included at a Yangon restaurant
  • Overnight at the Governor's Residence Hotel

Day 5

  • 6:30am - Fly to Bagan on KBZ 222
  • 7:50am - Arrive in Bagan, the small city on the Irrawaddy River with hundreds of gold steeples visible above the acacia forest, marking the 2000 temples in the area
  • Check in to Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Hotel, the finest hotel in Bagan, overlooking the Irrawaddy River, which is 3 miles wide at this point
  • Lunch included
  • Time to rest in the heat of the day before departing to see some of Myanmar's ancient temples, many with beautifully carved and decorated gold Buddhas and centuries-old painted walls and ceilings
  • Late afternoon, climb to the top of one of the largest temples to watch the sunset over this remarkable region
  • Dinner included

Day 6

  • Day of sightseeing, including the Myinkaba market, full of tiny stalls selling everything from produce to plastic baskets, to trinkets, the 12th century Gubyaukgyi temple with gorgeous interior murals, and one or two local factories that make handicrafts
  • Lunch included
  • Time to rest in the heat of the afternoon in your beautiful suite by the river
  • Late afternoon tour through the temples by horse and buggy, ending at the Irrawaddy River in time for a sunset cruise
  • Dinner included
  • Overnight at Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Hotel

Day 7

  • 8:10am - Fly to Mandalay on KBZ 222
  • 8:40am - Arrive in Mandalay
  • Transfer to the Hotel on the Red Canal, a boutique hotel with small, but beautifully appointed rooms of carved teak and rich colors set around a stream and garden
  • Lunch included
  • Afternoon of sightseeing, including U Bein Bridge, the longest teak bridge in the world
  • Dinner included

Day 8

  • Visit the largest monastery in the region to see the monks lining up for lunch and a nunnery where young nuns are being educated
  • Lunch included
  • Afternoon visit to the wonderful, small town of Ava, the old capital of the Burmese Kingdom for almost 400 years to see a small workshop where alms bowls are made for monks and the beautiful Bagayar Monastery
  • Dinner on your own
  • Overnight at the Hotel on the Red Canal

Day 9

  • 9:00am - Flight to Heho on KBZ 223 for our visit to Inle Lake
  • 9:40am - Arrive at Heho airport
  • Transfer to "Jetty Town" for our long-tail boats to the Villa Inle Resort and Spa, an elegant hotel on the banks of Inle Lake
  • Afternoon visit by boat to some of the villages along the shores of the lake and the fascinating floating truck gardens that produce the local vegetables and flowers
  • Lunch included
  • Dinner included

Day 10

  • Travel by boat through villages set over the lake on our way to a ruined temple with 1000 stupas, many with beautifully carved statues and doorways, where we'll take a path through villages and the forest to reach the temple
  • Lunch included on the lake
  • Afternoon free to enjoy relaxing by the lake or the excellent spa
  • Dinner included
  • Overnight at the Villa Inle Resort and Spa

Day 11

  • Morning visit by boat to a busy local market
  • Optional hike into the mountains above the lake, through Shan villages in the mountain valleys, with lunch prepared by our guide in a Shan home
  • Or, relax at the hotel after visiting the market
  • Lunch included on the hike or at the hotel
  • Dinner included
  • Overnight at the Villa Inle Resort and Spa

Day 12

  • 9:00am - Fly to Yangon
  • Lunch included
  • 2:35pm - For those going to Bangkok, transfer to international airport for flight to Bangkok on Thai Airways TG 302
  • 4:50pm - Arrive in Bangkok
  • Check in to Novotel at the SuvarabhumiAirport
  • Dinner included at a Bangkok restaurant
  • Option: For those flying home directly from Yangon, you will be transferred to the international airport for your flights home. Our services will end with this transfer.

Day 13

  • Walk on your own to your terminal for your flights back to the USA
